A Little Princess is an old children’s book written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I loved the movie version (the 1995 version), so I really wanted to read the book.
The book was very, very good. The characters were original and lovable, the themes were consistent and enjoyable, and the plot was just what I expected it to be.
Sara is what makes the book happen, and she is absolutely wonderful. Her strong wit, love for learning, caring for others, old-fashioned ways, and ability to pretend and imagine made the story come together beautifully. The plot was a fairy tale, and Sara was the most noble and worthy hero.
The plot is very different than that of the movie, but it is perhaps better for it as a book form. I read the book quickly and easily, and when I finished, I was left wanting to act like a princess myself.
