Ralph Vaughan Williams

I was singing the closing hymn in church today, “All Creatures of our God and King,” and I looked down at the composer. It was arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

What? I thought. This is the same composer I recently made a Pandora station from because he has one song on the Master and Commander soundtrack, “Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis.” I LOVE that song. LOVE it. I could listen to it over and over again.

I loved singing “All Creatures of our God and King,” so after church, I looked at what other hymns he had written. One of them was “For All the Saints,” my favorite hymn to play. And then, it was so exciting, I opened to “If You Could Hie to Kolob.” It is the most beautiful song in the LDS hymnbook.

So Ralph Vaughan Williams is my favorite composer.
