Lord Sunday

Lord Sunday.

by Garth Nix.

I haven’t done a book review in a while. But I had to review this book. Why?

Best ending of a series I have ever read.

I mean that. Late at night, as I was reading the final few pages, I started crying. Not because I was sad, but because the ending was so exhaustively good that I had to just cry.

The seven books leading up to this were up and down, though in whole, quite brilliant. I had no idea how it was going to end, really. I assumed the good guy would win, which is a pretty good assumption.

But then how it ended was so delicious, so surprising, and yet it was the only thing that worked, and I loved, loved, loved it.

Someone asked me if this had a better ending than Harry Potter. I said yes.

I could gush about it all day.

So if you want a good series, start with Mister Monday and work your way down. I’ve been reading this series for years now (it took a while for Mr. Nix to write them all), but it was worth it because the ending was amazing.

  1. Thanks for the recommendation. I’m always on the lookout for something good. I checked my library and they actually have all of them which is something of a miracle. I’m not sure anything could be as good as Harry Potter, but I will try to keep an open mind!

  2. Although the book’s aren’t as good as HP, I quite agree that the ending is. All the misgivings that I had were answered, and the good guy won in a very unique way. It was foreshadowed–but not predictably. Seriously–[SPOILER ALERT] the fact that the house was being eaten up by nothing at the same time Arthur was getting the will should have given it all way. But it didn’t. [END SPOILER] And the ending rocked.
