We went on a short adventure to Utah. It would have been a lot less driving if I wouldn’t have gone north instead of west for over 100 miles. I had to turn around and come back and try again. This was on my daughter’s birthday, adding an additional three hours to our drive time. So . . . that ranks in one of my top accidental mistakes of the last few years.
My little MM is growing up. She had a really good birthday besides the long drive which included a pink ukulele, which is mainly what she asked for. She woke up and got dressed first thing in a new dress her grandma had given her, ready for her birthday breakfast.
We stopped at a park and then drove to my sister Emily’s house, where we had a small birthday party. Mostly my kids love playing with their cousins.
And then we spent a few days with my sister Liz at her house. We were planning on going camping, but then it was a bit cold and rainy so we camped inside instead.
We went to Crystal Hot Springs where it rained on us while we were outside in the swimming pool, and there was steam coming up and a slight breeze.
And then down to my parents’ house, with a museum on the way. And I met up with my brother Ben and his family, who just moved to the area again.
My brother William was visiting from Montana. And with so many people around, we had a party, somewhat for my kids’ birthdays, mostly just to have a party.
We came home again. I don’t love driving across Wyoming. It’s just a whole lot of landscape, and it’s not always very interesting landscape. But we made it home and I’m glad to be home.
Daddy reading right before our trip:
MM on her birthday:
Remnants of a party:
Playing with cousins.
She wanted strawberry cheesecake for her cake. I approved.
Camping in the backyard. Please notice how BB is cooking his hot dogs in the picture below. I don’t know why.
The tent, where they actually slept without any fuss.
At the natural history museum.
At the splash park with cousins. I had my swimsuits with me because we were on vacation.
SR wandered around eating celery.
Great Grandpa Walker. We introduced them to Angry Birds while we were there.
There is always candy.
Party at the Walkers’ house.
All the kids played chess against Uncle Ben.
At Great Grandma Jane and Great Grandpa Claude’s house. We decorated graves up the street while we were there.
MM was upset because she forget a picture of her cousin at Grandma Claire’s house. A very small thing that led to lots of tears.
And she needed a nap. Many problems could be solved if people weren’t tired or hungry.
